EBG MedAustron GmbH in Wiener Neustadt operates one of the most modern centers for particle therapy and research in Europe. Cancer patients are treated with an innovative form of radiation therapy with protons and carbon ions. In addition to cancer treatment the facility is also used for translational research.


Our AVID team is responsible for all beam instrumentation and beam interception devices of the particle accelerator. The responsibility for accelerating structures, RF systems, ion sources and vacuum installations completes the team's profile.

FPGA Programmer (f/m/x)

full-time (40 hours weekly)

Challenges you conquer:

You are responsible for the digital components and communication interfaces of several devices in a proton /carbon particle accelerator facility, e.g. Low Level RF Systems, Beam Instrumentation, Data acquisition chains and current regulation boards. This includes:

  • Requirements engineering
  • Hardware selection including ADCs/DACs, Microcontrollers, FPGAs, MPSOCs
  • System architecture design, including communication to SCADA systems and other devices
  • Design of data acquisition and control chains
  • Implementation of designed systems
  • Testing and integration
  • Lifecycle management of existing components
  • Support our service teams to coordinate maintenance activities

A background that impresses:

  • Technical university degree in Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Sound knowledge of Hardware description languages (preferred VHDL) and Xilinx Development Environments (ISE 14.7, Vivado)
  • Experience with DSP/Microprocessor programming (C, C++)
  • Experience with analog & digital measurement & acquisition chains
  • C# and C++ for desktop applications is an asset
  • Nice to have experience with modeling, regulations and knowledge of Matlab or Python
  • Fluency in verbal and written communication in English, German is an advantage
  • Willing to fulfill work outside normal business hours and on-call support
  • Willingness to travel to international partner institutes and customers inside and outside of Europe

For the advertised position we offer a gross annual salary from € 45.000,-- (on a full-time basis) with the possibility of overpayment, depending on professional qualifications and experience.
