Simulation Engineer (f/m/x)

EBG MedAustron GmbH in Wiener Neustadt operates one of the most modern centers for particle therapy and research in Europe. Cancer patients are treated with an innovative form of radiation therapy with protons and carbon ions. In addition to cancer treatment the facility is also used for translational research.


Our Medical Device Safety team is responsible for the safety architecture of the Therapy Accelerator, the compliance to medical standards and patient safety critical systems.

Simulation Engineer (f/m/x)

full-time (40 hours weekly)

Challenges you conquer:

You perform simulations and data analysis on patient safety critical systems. By carrying out the following tasks you contribute to the further development of our safety architecture and accelerator performance:

  • Assess severity and probability of risks and develop risk control measures
  • Develop simulation tools and algorithms for our patient safety critical systems
  • Define requirements and test specifications for patient safety critical systems
  • Ensure compliance to medical standards (IEC 60601-1; IEC 60601-2-64)
  • Develop strategies to further improve the performance of existing systems and drive the upgrade of the accelerator
  • Act as interface between medical physicists and requirements engineers for safety systems
  • Contribute to the commissioning and integration of safety systems, which requires shift work 24/7 up to appr. 20% and on-call duty

A background that impresses:

  • Technical university degree in one of the following fields: Informatics, Data Science, Physics, Medical Physics or similar
  • Minimum of 3 years of occupational experience in development of software, simulation engines or safety critical systems
  • Profound knowledge in Python and ideally in C++ and C#
  • FLUKA Monte Carlo Code knowledge is an asset
  • Fluent in verbal and written communication in English. German is an advantage
  • You learn quickly and solve problems pragmatically
  • You are a creative and proactive person that is driven by self-initiative and keeps the overview over different tasks
  • Willing to fulfill shift work and on-call support

For the advertised position we offer a gross annual salary from € 44.000,-- (on a full-time basis) with the possibility of overpayment, depending on professional qualifications and experience.
